Du Plessis wasn’t a part of the South Africa squad that drew 1-1 in opposition to England in the three-match ODI sequence (one match was washed out). Nor was he a part of the T20I sequence which the hosts misplaced 1-2. Quinton de Kock was given the mantle to guide the facet and du Plessis insisted that he’ll contribute to the group as a batsman and as a senior participant.

“When I took over the leadership, I did so with the commitment to lead, perform & most importantly, to serve. As the team heads into a new direction with new leaders and a young crop of players, I feel it will be in the best interests of SA cricket to relinquish the captaincy,” Faf du Plessis informed CSA.
“This was one of many hardest selections to make, however I stay absolutely dedicated to supporting Quinton (de Kock), Mark (Boucher) and my teammates as we proceed to rebuild and re-align as a gaggle.
“The final season of my captaincy has been probably the most difficult up to now as I had numerous off-discipline points that I devoted my power in direction of,” he added.
